Friday News

May 20, 2022

Dear Hillcrest Families,

It’s going to be an unusually hot weekend which means our school building will absorb all kinds of sunshine over the next two days and we’ll arrive on Monday to a toasty building! Thankfully, the window AC units have been installed in almost all of our classrooms this week, so we should be able to cool things down a bit.  A big thank you goes out to our custodian, Theresa Bailey, for getting these units installed prior to this very early heat wave!

A few important news items:

  • Are you the parent of a preschooler heading to Kindergarten?  We have a great family workshop – “Getting Ready for Kindergarten: What does my child need to know?” –  scheduled for Friday, June 3rd at 11:30.  Kindergarten teacher, Veronica Hirst, and preschool teacher, Chanda Waryas Welles, will lead this workshop in Ms. Chanda’s classroom. Childcare will be offered on the preschool playground.  Please RSVP and sign up for childcare with Mrs. Prokowich in the main office by calling 863-9526 or emailing

  • Over the next few weeks, our students will be making transition visits to their next grade level. For preschool and kindergarten students, these will be informal trips to the kindergarten and first grade classrooms.  For first grade students, these will be mini field trips to Sheffield.

  • Our First Grade Team has a Community Safety Day planned for the first graders on June 1st.  This first grade tradition brings our community safety officers and their vehicles to our school grounds for education and exploration.  More information will be sent home soon.

  • I am happy to announce that we’ll be holding a Field Day on Friday, June 10th.  More details to follow in next week’s Friday News.

  • If your child has recently borrowed a book from our Diverse Books Family Lending Library, please be sure to return it by Monday, May 23rd

Wishing you a wonderful weekend –

Sarah Burstein
