Civil Rights & Equity Listening Session #2, for Families, 1/24/19
Hello Gill-Montague Families,
We are Keisha Green and Safire DeJong from the Collaborative for Educational Services. We have been invited by GMRSD to gather information about the equity and civil rights issues that students, family/guardians, and staff have experienced in the school district. In addition to gathering information, our role is to support a process where students, staff, and family/guardians use the information that is gathered to develop plans for transforming those issues in GMRSD schools.
We met with some parents and community members on Monday, January 14 and will have several more opportunities to listen and learn from parents, educators, and students this month. Based on what we learned from the first parent forum, we are adjusting our plan for the upcoming session.
We will be holding another listening session for family members/guardians of current/recent students next week on Thursday, January 24, from 6:30-8:30 pm, in the high school library. Childcare and Spanish/English translation will be provided. If you require childcare, please call Karen Wickline in the student services office at 863-7508.
We are asking that only family/guardians of current GMRSD students attend. We want to create a space where parents feel as free and safe as possible to share about their concerns and experiences with some level of confidentiality. We know that community members want to share their thoughts and support for parents and we want to assure community members that there will be other opportunities for participation.
The superintendent, Michael Sullivan, will be present at the next meeting to listen to parents experiences, concerns, and suggestions so that parents can be assured that they are being heard. Questions that are addressed specifically to the superintendent during the session will be recorded and responded to afterwards. Because we want to really focus on and learn about what the issues are, we will not have the superintendent responding to questions during the session.

Sesión # 2 para Escuchar a las Familias acerca de los Derechos Civiles y la Equidad 1/24/19
Hola Familias de Gill-Montague,
Nosotros somos Keisha Green y Safire DeJong de la Colaboración para los Servicios Educativos. Hemos sido invitados por GMRSD para recopilar información sobre los temas de equidad y de derechos civiles que los estudiantes, la familia / tutores y el personal han experimentado en el distrito escolar. Además de recopilar información, nuestra función es apoyar un proceso en el que los estudiantes, el personal y las familias/tutorres utilicen la información que se recopile para desarrollar planes para transformar esos problemas en las escuelas de GMRSD.
Nos hemos reunido con algunos padres y miembros de la comunidad el lunes 14 de enero y tendremos varias oportunidades más para escuchar y aprender de los padres, los educadores y los estudiantes en este mes. En base a lo que aprendimos del primer foro de padres, estamos ajustando nuestro plan para la próxima sesión.
Vamos a tener otra sesión para escuchar a los miembros de las familias / tutores de los estudiantes actuales / recientes la próxima semana el día Jueves, 24 de enero de 6:30-8:30 pm, en la biblioteca de la escuela secundaria. Se proporcionará cuidado de niños y traducción al español / Inglés. Si necesita cuidado de los niños, por favor llame a Karen Wickline en la oficina de servicios estudiantiles de 863 - 7508.
Pedimos que solo asistan los familiares / tutores de los estudiantes actuales de GMRSD. Queremos crear un espacio donde los padres se sienten tan libres como sea posible y seguros para poder compartir sus inquietudes y experiencias con un cierto nivel de confidencialidad. Sabemos que los miembros de la comunidad quieren compartir sus pensamientos y apoyo a los padres y queremos asegurar a los miembros de la comunidad que habrá otras oportunidades para su participación.
El superintendente, Michael Sullivan, estará presente en la próxima reunión para escuchar las experiencias, inquietudes y sugerencias de los padres para que los padres puedan estar seguros de que se les escucha. Las preguntas que se diriján específicamente al superintendente durante la sesión serán grabadas y responderán después.
