Principal Newsletter November 15, 2018

  • Thank you to all the families who attended last week’s parent/teacher conferences.  We appreciate your participation in your child’s educational journey.

  • There is an All School Meeting tomorrow, November 16 starting at 2:15 pm in our auditorium.

  • A reminder that all students will be outside in the morning before school as well as recess so long as the air temperature and wind chill are 20 degrees and higher.  Please have your child dress appropriately.

  • We have our first storm forecast for tonight and into tomorrow.  Some important information on how a delay or cancelation is determined.  The Superintendent first collects weather forecast information from the National Weather Service, Weather Underground, Dave Hayes the Weather Nut, and, at times, other sources. As decision making time approaches the superintendent contacts the local DPW or road crew managers, bus companies, and sometimes police departments, to learn about current and anticipated road conditions. As you would expect, the decision is driven by concerns for student, staff, and family safety.  In terms of notifying families of the decision for Gill-Montague, we communicate this news through the following channels, usually between 5:45 and 6:00 am: announcements on radio station WHAI, TV 22 and TV 40, phone calls to all current family phone numbers, and the district webpage page posting (gmrsd.org).

  • If we have a delay, there will be no morning breakfast served at school.

  • Starting Monday, November 19 the school is collecting non-perishable and unexpired food items for the  Montague Catholic Social Ministries Food Pantry. We will be collecting food until December 14. There is a beautiful bulletin board display to track which grade can bring in the most food.  The winning grade will be presented the silver can award for fighting hunger at December’s All School Meeting.

  • Wednesday, November 21 is a half day of school with a noon dismissal.

  • There is no school on Thursday,November 22 or Friday, November 23 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

  • I am truly thankful to be the principal of such a fine school with amazing students and staff!

With Sheffield Pride,
