Principal Newsletter 10/8/21

  •  It’s that time of year, the time to dress in layers. Depending on where one is in the building, it is cool or warm. Please dress your child accordingly, so that they can take off or add clothing as needed.
  • Sheffield’s virtual open house will be Tuesday, October 12th. More information on how to access it will be shared next week.
  • The lunch menu continues to be a work in progress. We have been experiencing shortages of some items which has impacted our ability to follow the monthly menu. We appreciate your understanding and patience as this is out of our control.
  • Please be advised that if your child arrives at school without a mask, or an adult sized one they will be given a white child sized one. This is important as the mask needs to fit properly; covering both the nose and mouth without dropping.
    • For the safety of staff and students the mask has to stay on unless eating, at recess if separated by 6 or more feet, or a break by a window.
    • If students are in violation of this policy, the building principal will consult with the parent/guardians to determine whether an exception is appropriate, or the student may be subject to discipline in accordance with the procedures contained in the Student Handbook.

  • I’m excited that fourth and fifth grade classes will be campaigning for Student Council this month. A letter to grade four and five families will be going home. We have a target date of Tuesday, October 26 for elections.
  • The Friends of Sheffield's online fundraiser with Fogbuster Coffee Works, formerly Pierce Bros. Coffee, in Greenfield, starts today!!! Go to https://piercebrospromos.com/collections/fundraiser to check out a variety of items available for purchase including a special SHEFFIELD PRIDE blend of coffee, various flavored coffees, K-cups and chocolate covered espresso beans. 30% of all proceeds from this sale will go directly towards funding some of our Sheffield traditions or if you'd prefer to make a straight donation there is a button on the website just for that. This fundraiser is strictly online so you may ask family and friends from near and far to help support us. (If you are unable to buy online but are interested in making a purchase please contact us at friendsofsheffield@gmail.com and we will assist you.)  The fundraiser is open from October 8 to October 22, and all items will be available for pickup in the parking lot at Sheffield on Friday, October 29, at 3:15. Purchases may also be shipped to you if you prefer, but you will have to pay shipping costs with that option. There’s definitely a little something for everyone! Thank you for your support of Sheffield Elementary School!
  • Our bus evacuation drills were completed successfully.
  • Next week, Turners Falls fire department will conduct their annual fire safety presentations to each grade on October 15.
  • Monday, October 11, 2021 there is no school in observance of the holiday.

Warmly,

Melissa Pitrat
