Principal Newsletter 2/25/2021

  •  It has been so wonderful to see students and staff back in school!  I understand and support that everyone is making decisions based on their health and comfort level, but I want to thank all the families who’ve decided to send their child/ren in for in-person learning, I can’t stop smiling!

  • Thank you all for dropping off your child/ren in the morning at the correct time!  I appreciate that students are not dropped off before adults are outside for their safety.  There are a lot of car drop offs and to help with the efficiency of this process, please drive up as far as you can between the cones and the sidewalk up to the street.  This allows 4 or 5 vehicles that are up against the sidewalk at a time and all vehicles should then let their child/ren exit, then drive forward.

  • Girls on the Run is back this spring! Starting March 29, 2021  girls in 3rd-5th  grade at Sheffield will have a GOTR team. Coach Ashley, Coach Corinne and Coach Sue can’t wait to have you all back! Last year we only had 1 practice when the season was cancelled, we were still able to do our virtual 5k and so we are hoping to have you all return for a full season this spring! Registration information was sent home and so please sign up as soon as you can.

Girls on the Run is so much fun!

Coaches Ashley, Corinne and Sue

  • Your child will have outdoor recess every day so long as the air and wind chill are 20 degrees or higher.  Please make sure that your child has a coat, snow pants and boots if you’d like them to play in the snow.  Students who do not have snow pants and boots will not be allowed to play in the snow so they don’t get soaked and will be required to stay on the blacktop.

  • We will be having our first fire drill with the A cohort next week.  There will be another one later in the spring for the B cohort.

  • Remote Wednesdays start promptly at 8:30.  Please make sure your child/ren are logging on at that time so they are not marked tardy.

  • From the Nurse’s Office:   Please remember that student’s annual Health Forms need to be returned for the start of Hybrid teaching. Also, please register your student through Project Beacon for the rapid Covid test if you haven’t already. No student that becomes symptomatic at school, will be tested at school without this registration completed. Thank you to all that have submitted their student’s form and registered for the rapid testing.

Please call/email Nurse Sue with any questions at 863-7441.

  • From Mrs. Burke in the office:  Please return all beginning of the year paperwork preferably before your child starts back to school.  You can drop them off in-person to the office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday between 8:00-4:00.  You can also fax to 413-863-3259 or email cburke@gmrsd.org.

  • Dress your child in warm layers, windows in classrooms and on busses will be ajar up to an inch to ensure air flow.

  • If you are looking to donate items for school or classroom use, we would always accept either white paper towels to aid in cleaning desks with Cleancide, or hand sanitizer.  (We cannot accept Clorox or Lysol wipes due to the chemicals in them.)

  • Our FOS is still in need of a treasurer.  The interested individual needs to be a parent of a student in our school, is comfortable with writing checks and balancing a checkbook.  If you are interested, please contact either Lesley Cogswell at lescogs@gmail.com or Carly Skorupa at clkinnas@gmail.com

  • Congratulations to the second grade who had the most minutes in both reading and math this past week in i-Ready!!  Mrs. Tucker’s/Mr. Cerone’s class had the most minutes for reading and Ms. Pelis’ class had the most minutes for math!  Keep up the great work!

With Sheffield Pride,

Melissa Pitrat
