Dear Gill Community,

It was delightful to meet with students and staff on an all school Google meet last week. Students clearly are missing each other and appreciated the opportunity to say hello and connect with students at other grade levels! Their energy and excitement was palpable and I was so appreciative to see their smiling faces.

I’d like to welcome two new staff members to our school! Amber Flagg has been hired as a special education paraprofessional and will be working primarily in third grade, and Andre Beauregard is the new special education paraprofessional in grades 5 & 6. We are very glad to have these new staff on board, beginning this coming Monday.

Students in kindergarten worked on their Thanksgiving Day recipes today with their teachers Ms. Gobeil and Ms. Croteau today, and I thought you’d enjoy reading them, just in case you need some cooking guidance for the holiday tomorrow!

How to Cook a Thanksgiving Turkey- Group 1

First, build a fire. Put the wood in a pit and light it up. Next, put the turkey over the fire on a spit and let it cook. Cook the turkey for a half hour for two nights. Finally, take it off of the fire and let it cool down and then eat it with your family

How to Cook a Thanksgiving Turkey- Group 2

First, turn the oven on and let it heat up to 50’. Next, put the turkey in a pan and stuff it with green beans, corn and carrots. Cook the turkey in the oven for one minute. Finally, take the turkey out of the oven and eat it with your family.

I would like to express my deepest thanks to all of the Gill Parent/Caregiver Community for their unfailing support for the school, their commitment to helping their children, and for working so well with the teachers and staff at the school during this time of Remote Learning. I’d also like to highlight and recognize the staff at Gill Elementary who are stepping up daily to connect with their students, managing to build a sense of community despite the physical barriers, and continuing to engage students and promote learning virtually!

I hope that you all have a restful and family focused Thanksgiving holiday break. Feel free to reach out to me with any concerns or questions at (413)863-7456 or at Lisa.Desjarlais@gmrsd.org.

Warm Regards,

Lisa Desjarlais, Principal
