Dear Hillcrest Families,

Happy Last Day of School!  While we always recognize the last day of school as a time of celebration, it’s important to note that this transition can be bittersweet.  Everyone is excited about the fun of summer, but we will certainly miss each Hillcrest student! We deeply appreciate your willingness to partner with us to support your child’s growth and we look forward to continuing that work when we return to school in late August.

If you find yourself with some free time over the summer, I really hope that you’ll join us for Summer Story Time on Tuesdays in July and August.  All current and future Hillcrest students and their parents or caregivers are invited for Story Time on the following Tuesdays: July 16th &  30th and August 6th & 13th. We will gather at 11:00 in the Hillcrest library for a story and craft, followed by some outdoor play on the Hillcrest playground. After that, it’s the perfect time to head over to Sheffield for the free lunch program.

Additional notes for the week:

  • Thank you to Friends of Hillcrest for sponsoring the fabulous puppet show performed by Talking Hands on Monday.  And, another big thank you to Friends of Hillcrest for the cool Hillcrest Elementary drawstring bags that each student received.

  • It was so lovely to celebrate our preschoolers on Thursday morning! Thank you to all of the family members who attended this special event.

  • Student report cards will be mailed home on June 25th.

  • The first day of school for First Grade is Thursday, August 29th. Kindergarten and Preschool Family Conferences will be held on Thursday, August 29th and Friday, August 30th. The first day of school for Kindergarten and Preschool is Tuesday, September 3rd.

  • For Kindergarten students, September 3rd, 4th and 5th are Half Days. The first Full Day of Kindergarten is Friday, September 6th.

  • For Preschool students, September 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th are Half Days.

  • All Hillcrest students will receive a Welcome Back packet in the middle of August. This will contain information about your child’s classroom assignment. Please note that there are no required school supplies beyond a backpack.  (Kindergarten and preschool students will need a sheet or blanket for rest time.) Some teachers may send a classroom wish list, but these are helpful items that families may choose to donate at any point during the school year. None of these items are required or expected.

Wishing you a wonderful summer --

Sarah Burstein
