Dear Hillcrest Families,

As we head off to school vacation, I am sending along my best wishes for a refreshing and fun week of family time!  I hope you all have the opportunity to enjoy your favorite family activities and I hope you find some time to relax as well!! December can be a super busy and often exhausting time of year for children and their grown-ups!  Here’s to some wintry naps and early bedtimes for all!

A few important news items:

  • Thank you to all of the community members who were able to join us for our rescheduled December All School Meeting!

  • Please be sure to check your child’s backpack for an at-home Covid Test Kit.  Testing before your child returns to school is not required, but If you would like to test, these kits are available for that purpose.

  • Attached to this week’s email,  you will find the December edition of the Hillcrest Math Newsletter. Please be sure to read this letter for important information about our math curriculum and for ideas about supporting math learning outside of school.

  • This week, we’re saying good-bye to Kindergarten Teacher, Ms Michaela Kelly.  She will be moving on to another school and we will miss her!  Ms Ramona LaTronica will be taking over as our new Kindergarten Teacher in early January.  Welcome to kindergarten, Ramona!

  • In early January, our first graders will participate in an Arts Residency led by local dance teacher, Anna Hendricks. First grade families will receive more details in a separate letter. We are grateful to the Massachusetts Cultural Council for funding this incredible learning opportunity.

  • As you prepare for back to school in January, please make sure that your children have all the necessary winter gear (Hat, Jacket, Gloves/Mittens, Snowpants and Boots) at school each day.  Some students have gear that remains at school and we can easily store that in their cubbies.  Other families send gear each day and that works, too.  Please label all of your children’s snow gear as many items are similar and can be easily mixed up!

Wishing you a wonderful week –

Sarah Burstein, Hillcrest Principal
