Friday News

January 6, 2023

Dear Hillcrest Families,

Happy New Year to all of you! Our first week back from school vacation has been very productive.  Our students are getting settled back into their routines and we’re back on track for lots of learning and fun in 2023!

A few important news items:

  • Our first graders have begun their Artist in Residence project with Anna Hendricks.  They are really enjoying their daily dance experiences.  Please be sure to ask your first grader all about it!

  • Don’t forget about our December Math Challenge! Please take a look at the end of this newsletter for details about leading a Number Hunt with your child and about entering the monthly drawing for a cool math prize.

  • We’ve welcomed some new Hillcrest staff members in the past few weeks.  Christine Banister and Alaina Brown have joined us as special education paraprofessionals. Josh Estrada has joined us as our cafeteria manager and Diane Cassady has joined us as our morning custodian.   We’re happy to keep adding to our Hillcrest family!

  • Later in January, Ms. Jessika Nadeau, our district elementary Library Teacher, will return from family leave.  Your children will get to know Ms. Nadeau beginning on January 23rd.  Welcome back, Ms. Nadeau!

  • Attached to this week’s email, you will find information about community Covid Testing resources.  You will also find a Thank You note from Friends of Hillcrest with details about our recent food drive.

  • And, one more reminder about Winter Gear.  Please get into the daily habit of sending your Hillcrest student to school with all of their winter gear – hat, jacket, mittens, snow pants and boots.  We do our best to get outside as frequently as possible and these items are essential.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend –

Sarah Burstein, Hillcrest Principal

Monthly Math Challenge

Monthly Math Challenge:

Math is everywhere…this month’s math challenge is to go on a number hunt with your child. Where can you find numbers? This “hunt” can happen in your very own home or you can take it on the road to the grocery store, doctor's appointment, etc. Can you find numbers in your kitchen, bathroom, car, the bus, on your clothes…when you start looking for them you may notice more numbers than you usually do.

If your child finds a number in or on something please send me an email or send a note in your child’s school folder before January 13th. Each student who finds a number will be entered to win their own Crazy 8s card game. Just let me know where your child found numbers!

As always, please reach out to me if I can be a math resource for you and your family!

Mathematically yours, Ms. Hirst

Hirst
