Friday News

January 7, 2022

Dear Hillcrest Families,

Happy 2022!  I sincerely hope that 2022 brings better health and more predictability to all of us! We have begun 2022 here at school with some significant disruptions – a Two Hour Delay on Monday and a Snow Day on Friday – and that makes it challenging to get back into the swing of things!

A few important news items:

  • Please be sure to call the Hillcrest Main Office at 413-863-9526 whenever your child is going to be absent or tardy.

  • If you did not receive an email or phone notification regarding the Two Hour Delay or Snow Day, please call Mrs. Prokowich in our Main Office to ensure that we have your correct contact information.

  • If you have any COVID related questions, here are the key numbers that you may need:

    • Communicating concerns about COVID Exposure

      • While health information is private and protected, we ask that all families commit to inform your child’s school, if you have a positive case or concern for exposure to COVID in your home. The nurse contacts for Hillcrest, to report child or household COVID-19 concern, are as follows: Jazmin Miller, Hillcrest Nurse – 413-863-2638 or jazmin.miller@gmrsd.org

    • Outside of School Hours COVID Reporting

      •  If you discover outside of school hours, such as the evening, a weekend or a school vacation, families can contact the following number to ensure that the school has timely notification of a COVID positive student or family member, please call the following number: 413-863-7215

  • You should have received a communication from the Superintendent yesterday regarding Covid Testing.  It has also been attached to your weekly Hillcrest Friday News email.

  • Also attached is a helpful one-pager with essential COVID Communication Contact information. COVID CONTACTS for Hillcrest

  • For those students whose families have given permission, our Pooled Testing will continue to take place each Tuesday.  We generally receive results by Thursday morning.  You will be contacted by our school nurse if your child tests positive or if your child is considered a close contact.

  • In Non-Covid news, we are excited to be joined by several student interns from the University of Massachusetts and Greenfield Community College this semester!  Our first grade teachers, Ms Johnson, Miss Matrishon, and Ms. Smith, along with Ms. Wulfkuhle, our ESL teacher, will all be hosting UMass interns beginning in mid-January. And, our Hillcrest School Nurse, Jazmin Miller, will be hosting two nursing interns from GCC.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend —

Sarah Burstein
