Hillcrest Updates

  • We did it!  Collectively, we all made it to the finish line of another school year! Thank you very much for all you did to support our school community throughout the year.  From attending All School Meetings and Friends of Hillcrest events to making sure your student had sneakers for PE and boots on snowy days, I am grateful for your dedication to Hillcrest!

  • Looking ahead to next week, I am so excited to let you know that we will be “breaking ground” on the new Hillcrest Neighborhood Playground on Monday, June 17th!  Our current Kindergarten & First Grade playground space will be off limits all summer as demolition and construction are completed.  The goal is to have our new playground ready for fun by mid September.

  • Student report cards will be mailed home by the end of next week.  Once you’ve had a chance to review your student’s report and celebrate their progress, please be sure to check out the flier about an upcoming opportunity for parents and caregivers to offer their input on the district’s elementary semesters and reporting terms.

  • We’ll be holding two virtual forums about moving from a trimester model to semester model for report cards and conferences.  These will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, June 25th and Thursday, June 27th at 7:00 p.m. Please see the flier above for the Zoom link.

  • The Summer Meal program begins on June 24th at six different community sites. This Summer Eats flier was sent home in your child’s backpack yesterday.

  • I am delighted to announce that Ms Ashley Sicard will be moving into the role of Hillcrest Administrative Assistant on August 15th. Many of you may already know Ms. Sicard as a special education instructional assistant here at Hillcrest.  Others may know her as a neighbor and the parent of two GMRSD students.  Ms Sicard brings her strong community connections as well as excellent organizational and communication skills to her new position.  Please be sure to stop by to welcome Ms. Sicard at the start of the school year!

  • This is my final edition of the Hillcrest Friday News. I have been writing these updates for the past ten school years and it’s always been an end of the week routine for me to reflect on the week’s happenings and to look forward to upcoming events.  For this final edition, I am reflecting on my time at Hillcrest and I want to express my sincere appreciation to all of the Hillcrest family and community members who have been so kind, generous and supportive during my time as your school principal.  I look forward to seeing you around town and I am planning to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Hillcrest Neighborhood Playground in the fall.  I hope to see you there!
