Friday News

March 4, 2022

Dear Hillcrest Families,

March has arrived and that means it’s time for Conferences!  Please be sure to respond to your child’s teacher in order to arrange your conference meeting time.  We strive for 100% participation at conferences and we are looking forward to connecting with each student’s family.

A few important news items:

  • At Conferences on March 17 and 18, Yuki, Therapy Dog-in-Training, will be here at Hillcrest.  You may have heard all about Yuki from your Hillcrest student and perhaps you’d like to meet him!  On our conference days, you are welcome to stop by Ms. Halina’s office to say “hello.”

  • Message from the Superintendent regarding mask expectations:

    • Please keep in mind that all students, staff, and visitors are still required to wear masks at school and on busses, until we make changes to those expectations. On March 8th, the district will discuss a proposed date for the near future, for when we will move to a mask-optional practice. I will share that date with families, as soon as we have consulted with local health officials. We are pleased to see that COVID cases in our region, towns, and schools are declining rapidly.

  • On Read Across America Day, your Hillcrest student came home with a new book in their backpack.  Please take some to celebrate reading with your child and enjoy this new book together. This year’s Read Across America theme is “Create and Celebrate a Nation of Diverse Readers”. For some excellent book suggestions, check out this Read Across America Calendar featuring one new title each month.

  • Attached to this week’s Friday News email you will find the CFCE Winter Newsletter.  CFCE stands for Coordinated Family and Community Engagement and this group provides a range of resources for families of young children who live in our school district. I hope you’ll enjoy the newsletter

  • Please check your email inbox for my recent email with Friends of Hillcrest updates.  Friends of Hillcrest has some exciting spring events planned and your ideas and input are needed!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend –

Sarah Burstein
