Friday News

May 29, 2020

Dear Hillcrest Families,

Whoa! How have we already arrived at the last Friday in May? Time has passed so strangely this spring and all of our schedules and routines have been completely disrupted.  This is the time of year when our students would be making visits to their next year’s classrooms, they would be creating year-end projects like memory books and collages, and we would all be gathering for Field Day.  Instead, we are all apart and are creating new ways to bring the school year to a close.  Over the next few weeks, your children’s participation in their Google Classroom learning experiences and their Google Meets will be especially important in helping them to navigate the end of the school year.  We know that families are juggling many demands and we respectfully ask that you do your best to carve out time to connect with your children’s classmates and teachers through those remote learning platforms.

A few items of note:

  • I am excited to announce that we will have a schoolwide Summer Reading book for each Hillcrest student to enjoy during the summer months.  The book is Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de la Pena.  This book will be included in a packet of summer learning activities that will focus on early reading and mathematics.  More details to come about how these packets will be distributed.

  • Our preschool registration process closes on Monday, June 1st.  Our kindergarten registration process will continue throughout the month of June.  If you have a five year-old at home or in your extended family, please get them registered for kindergarten as soon as possible. You can find the registration forms on the district website www.grmsd.org or you can call our main office at 863-9526 to request a registration packet to be mailed to you.

  • Thank you to the many families who stopped by at school this week to pick up their students’ learning materials and personal belongings. If you still need to gather your children’s things, please call us at 863-9526 or email me at sarah.burstein@gmrsd.org, so that we can make arrangements.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend --

Sarah Burstein, Principal
