Friday News

October 30, 2020

Dear Hillcrest Families,

What a way to end the month . . . our first snow of the season, a full moon and Halloween!  And, don’t forget that it’s time to turn the clocks back one hour on Sunday morning.  This will not be a typical Halloween weekend and many beloved Halloween traditions will be altered significantly due to Covid-19.  Whether or not your family celebrates Halloween, I do hope that each Hillcrest family will be able to enjoy some type of safe, socially distanced family fun this weekend.

A few updates to share:

  • If you were unable to pick up your child’s At-Home Learning Materials this past Wednesday, you may stop by Hillcrest this upcoming week between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  Please pull into the traffic circle and honk your horn or give us a call so that we can safely deliver your materials to you.  Many of these materials are directly connected to upcoming classroom lessons, so picking these up early in the week is ideal.

  • Family Conferences are coming up  . . . please mark your calendars for Thursday, November 12th and Friday, November 13th.  And, be on the lookout for an email from your child’s teacher about scheduling your individual appointment.

  • A friendly reminder about background distractions during LIVE Remote Learning sessions . . . please keep in mind that the camera and microphone on your child’s Chromebook are very effective.  Family happenings, television programs, adult language . . . all of these can easily become part of the classroom setting.  Please take care that your child’s daily learning space  is set up in a way that minimizes these issues as much as possible.

  • And an important repeat item: We are hoping to revive our PTO Group -- Friends of HIllcrest! Friends of Hillcrest has been in existence for the past six years and it has focused on organizing fun events for our students and on showing appreciation for the Hillcrest staff.  Friends of Hillcrest also sponsors free family activities and helps out with school projects like an annual spring clean-up.  If you are interested in learning more about Friends of Hillcrest or if you want to volunteer your time to this worthy cause, please contact Hillcrest parent, Shayna Reardon at shayna.reardon@gmail.com.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ---

Sarah Burstein
