Friday News

September 10, 2021

Dear Hillcrest Families,

There’s been lots of excitement about the Franklin County Fair at school today! Children were delighted to see some of their classmates and teachers at the parade last night and many are looking forward to visiting the fair this weekend.  Whatever your weekend plans may be (the fair, a trip to the library, playing in the backyard), I hope you will each have a chance to relax and enjoy some quiet family time. The Back to School transition can be exciting AND exhausting! It’s very typical for our students and their caregivers to need extra downtime and naptime during these first few weeks.  It takes some time for our students to build the stamina they will need to navigate the school day. Don’t be surprised by a tired, and possibly cranky kiddo by Friday afternoon!  That will pass, I promise!

A few important news items:

  • This week, all Hillcrest families should have received information from the Superintendent regarding Covid cases.  Most recently, the Superintendent sent information about the district’s protocols regarding positive Covid cases.  Please follow this link: Superintendent's Message re Covid Cases to review that email.  It is also attached to the Friday News email as a PDF.

  • For additional information about Covid Protocols and Covid Testing options in school, please follow this link to the GMRSD Covid Information Page.  You can also navigate to this page by going to www.grmsd.org and clicking on the pink GMRSD Covid Information Banner.  You will find forms for testing consent, an overview of Covid protocols and information about the upcoming vaccine clinic.

  • School Picture Day is coming up on Tuesday, September 21st.  Picture forms will be sent home next week.

  • And, please note, our first Early Release Day of the school year is Wednesday, September 22nd.  Our preschoolers will be dismissed at 11:30 that day and our kindergarten and first grade students will be dismissed at 12:00. Lunch will be served.

  • IMPORTANT REPEAT ITEM: Please note that families who pick up their children in the afternoon should park their vehicles in the Griswold Street Parent Parking Lot and walk to their designated pick-up location. The area near the main entrances is reserved for bus traffic during dismissal time.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ---

Sarah Burstein
