Dear Hillcrest Families,

 

You may be wondering . . . why did our children already have an Early Release Day at this point in the school year?  This week’s Early Release Day was scheduled to provide professional development focused on the implementation of our new mathematics program: Bridges. This new program was chosen by our Elementary Math Committee last year due to its research-based foundation and its focus on hands-on problem-solving and the use of mathematical models.  On Wednesday, our preschool, kindergarten and first grade faculty met to preview the upcoming Bridges units and to share best practices for implementation of two essential Bridges routines: Number Corner and Work Places. If you are interested in learning more about Bridges, you can check out the Family Information Sheets attached to this newsletter or you can visit the Bridges website at www.mathlearningcenter.org.

Looking ahead, here are some important news items for you:

  • Our September All School Meeting will be held on Friday, September 27th at 9:00. The following classes will be presenting: Preschool/Ms.Chase, Kindergarten/Mrs. Lesenski, First Grade/Ms. Smith.

  • The first Friends of Hillcrest meeting of the school year will be held on Thursday, September 19th here at Hillcrest from 5:00 - 6:00. Free childcare will be provided. For more information, please contact friendsofhillcrest2015@gmail.com

  • Friends of Hillcrest will host a Hillcrest Potluck & Games Night on Friday, September 27th. This free family event is a great way to meet your child’s classmates and connect with your neighbors.  

  • Hillcrest Open House will be held on Thursday, October 10th from 5:30 - 6:30. Please mark your calendars for this very special event!
