A Note from Principal Bailey:
Dear families,
Welcome to October!
The seasons are changing and the leaves are starting to show their colors. Please try to get outside in this beautiful weather and enjoy the fall colors.
Our school has been very busy in the first several days of October. We had a Friends of Hillcrest/Sheffield meeting and finalized the plans for the Trunk or Treat on Oct 18th at 6:00. Mark your calendars and come dressed for Halloween and see the amazing trunks that have been decorated and collect some candy. Or join in the fun by bringing your own car decorated with a fun design and hand out candy to our school community.
We had lots of walkers, bikers, and even some rollerbladers during our Walk, Bike, Roll event. There were two starting points, the elks parking lot and the safety complex parking lot. The fire and police departments also joined us on our journey. Thank you to all the adults that also joined in the fun parade to school.
The whole school participated in a lock down drill to practice how to stay safe in case of an emergency and everyone did an amazing job. We had local and state police officers assisting us with the drill and they were very impressed with how well all of our students followed the directions of the teachers. We will continue to practice these important drills throughout the year.
We had the fire department visit us to talk about fire safety. October is fire prevention month and it is very important to review with your child how to leave your home in a fire and where your family meeting place is. The fire fighters stressed how important it is to have a central location away from your home but near the road to meet and make sure that everyone is safe. Please check your smoke detectors and change the batteries. The changing of the seasons is a good way to remember to change your batteries in your smoke detectors.
Hillcrest will be hosting Literacy Night on Oct 24th from 5:30-7:00pm. We will have games, books read by community members, games, crafts and so much more. All of this is to celebrate the written word and to encourage reading and writing at school and at home. Please plan on joining us for a fun filled night with prizes at the end.
Attached to this newsletter you will find some flyers from the town libraries with all sorts of fun activities for families. If you have not been to the library lately, I encourage you to go and see all the wonderful things the library has to offer you.
