Dear Hillcrest Families,

I hope you’re all looking forward to the long holiday weekend!  It really is a treat to have some extra time to enjoy the beauty of New England at this time of year!

 

A few important news items:

  • Hillcrest Open House is going virtual this year!  Please head on over to our school website at 5:00 on Wednesday, October 13th to access our virtual open house slideshows. You can find the Hillcrest website at http://www.gmrsd.org/hillcrest-elementary-school.

  • On Tuesday, October 12th, our kindergarten and first grade students will participate in bus safety training with the help of our friends from Kuzmeskus.  Even if your child does not regularly ride the bus, they will participate in this safety training session.

  • On Thursday, October 14th, all of our students will participate in Fire Safety education led by the Turners Falls Fire Department.  Each grade level will have its own session with our local firefighters.  A big thank you goes out to the Turners Falls Fire Department for bringing this excellent programming to our school each year! 

  • As you may already know, school lunch programs across the country are facing challenges with delivery of planned menu items.  On occasion, we may need to make a last minute change to our menu. When this happens, we will post changes on our school Facebook page at www.facebook.com/HillcrestEl.  Please be assured that despite the menu changes, our students’ food allergy needs remain a top priority and we will make safe, appropriate substitutions. 

  • Looking ahead to November, Parent Conferences will take place on Thursday, November 4th and Friday, November 5th.  Please be on the lookout for communication from your child’s teacher about getting signed up for your conference. 

 

IMPORTANT REPEAT ITEM

  • If you’re interested in the Community Flu Vaccine Clinics (see details below), please contact the Hillcrest Health Office at 863-2638 to talk with Nurse Jazmin Miller. 

  • GMRSD  will  be holding flu vaccine clinics on the following days:

    • Gill Elementary School: Thursday, October 14, 3:30-5:30 p.m.

    • Hillcrest Elementary School: Friday, October 15, 3:30-5:00 p.m.

    • Turners Falls High School: Tuesday, October 19, 2:00-3:30 p.m.

    • A vaccination consent form can be filled out and signed by anyone getting a flu vaccine prior to the clinic for efficiency. Anyone who is younger than 18 will need a parent/guardian signature. The vaccine is free, but please bring your health insurance cards (original or photocopy of your prescription drug card, major medical card, and Medicare card if enrolled) if you have insurance. Clothes should be worn that allow quick and easy access to the upper shoulder region. These clinics are open to school students and families.
