Superintendent Selection Process

March 20, 2020

Dear GMRSD Community,

The selection process for the next superintendent of schools will continue on schedule next week but with a changed format.  The interviews of the three finalists will occur on Monday, March 23, starting at 5:30 pm, as follows:

     -  Brian Beck, Principal of Hopkins Academy, Hadley Public Schools

     -  Karen Ferrandino, Director of Student Services, Frontier Regional School District

     -  Mary Jane Rickson, Interim Superintendent, Maynard Public Schools

The school committee will then hold a meeting to deliberate and select a candidate on Tuesday, March 24, starting at 6:30 pm.

Unfortunately, due to the Governor’s order regarding public meeting sizes, these meetings will not be open to the public and some members of the school committee will be participating remotely.   However, the March 23 will be broadcast live on MCTV and the March 24 meeting will be recorded.

This will allow any member of the public, interested in doing so, to view the interviews on March 23 and then contact school committee members with any feedback they might have prior to the committee’s deliberations the next evening, March 24.  School committee member’s emails may be found on the school committee page of the district website: gmrsd.org.

The school committee recognizes that this modified selection process has reduced the public visibility of the selection process, however we feel it is important to not delay this most important decision into an indefinite future timeline.  Should the state further reduce public mobility and gatherings between now and Monday evening it is possible further changes in plans may be required.

If you have any questions about these upcoming meetings please contact the school committee’s executive assistant, Sabrina Blanchard Sabrina.blanchard@gmrsd.org.

Sincerely,

Jane Oakes, Chair

Gill-Montague Regional School District
