  Hillcrest Elementary School Friday News January 28, 2022 Dear Hillcrest Families,   Our winter weather brings some challenges to the morning routine! The extra time that’s needed to bundle up, navigate snowy sidewalks or scrape ice off the car can lead to some late arrivals at school. In second grade the classroom teacher, art teacher and music teacher collaborated on a project with the book “Sky Tree” by Thomas Locker. We answered the question, How does the Sky Tree show the cycle of seasons in writing? In art, students explored using tempera paints to create a seasonal tree with a colored sky in the background. 2nd grade artists enjoyed a clay day and experimented with simple tools to create their textured owl. In music they sang and danced “Tall Tree” by Lorraine Lee Hammond. Students created instrumental accompaniment to the song. The final project is a slide...

There is no school tomorrow, Friday, January 21st.  This is Turn Around Day.  Staff have to report, but not students. Our teachers encourage students to wear their coats/outdoor gear before exiting the building for both recess and the end of the day.  Some students refuse to wear their coat, but we do remind them to do so. There’s a vax bus at TFHS on Monday, January 24th.  Please visit our district website for more information. There is no school on Monday, January 17th in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There is a virtual FOS (Friends of Sheffield) meeting on Wednesday, January 19th from 4:00-4:45 pm.
